What is Vardenafil?
Vardenafil (Levitra — high-selectivity PDE5 inhibitor) is a Small molecule C₂₃H₃₂N₆O₄S·HCl, MW 579.1. Potent PDE5 inhibitor with higher selectivity for PDE5 over PDE6 (colour vision interference) compared to sildenafil. Prevents cGMP degradation in vascular smooth muscle via NO pathway. Short half-life (~4–5hr). Hepatically metabolised (CYP3A4 — relevant for drug interaction research).
Research Applications
High PDE5/PDE6 Selectivity
Lower visual side effects vs sildenafil — selectivity research
cGMP/NO Pathway
Smooth muscle vasodilation, blood flow, endothelial interaction
Short-Acting PK
4–5hr half-life — rapid onset and clearance pharmacokinetics
CYP3A4 Interaction
Drug-drug interaction research at CYP3A4 metabolic site
vs Tadalafil
Short-acting (vardenafil) vs long-acting (tadalafil) PDE5 comparison
