What is Thymosin Alpha-1?
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1 — Thymalfasin (28-aa thymic peptide)) is a 28-amino acid N-terminally acetylated thymic peptide. Naturally occurring thymic peptide activating TLR2 and TLR9 on dendritic cells and T-cells, promoting type I IFN production in plasmacytoid dendritic cells, Th1 polarisation, T-cell maturation in thymus, and NK cell cytotoxicity. Approved in 35+ countries as thymalfasin. N-terminal acetylation required for activity.
Research Applications
TLR2/TLR9 Signalling
Innate immune activation via toll-like receptor pathways
Type I Interferon
IFN-α/β production in plasmacytoid dendritic cells
T-Cell Maturation
Thymic maturation, CD3/CD4/CD8 upregulation on thymocytes
Th1 Polarisation
Cell-mediated immunity vs humoral — IL-12, IFN-γ research
NK Cell Activation
Natural killer cell cytotoxicity — antitumour and antiviral
