TIER 2 RESEARCH OVERVIEW β SLEEP BIOLOGY
Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide | HPA Axis | Non-GABAergic Sleep | Monnier 1977
DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) has one of the more complex evidence profiles in peptide research. It was the first endogenous sleep-promoting peptide identified β isolated by Monnier et al. in 1977 from the blood of rabbits during thalamic-stimulated sleep. Early studies showed compelling delta wave induction. Later replication has been inconsistent. Its receptor has never been cloned. This article covers what the evidence actually shows β the robust findings, the contested data, and why DSIP remains a useful research tool despite its uncharacterised receptor.
